A Poll and a Giveaway

THE POLL
I'm trying to make a decision about something and would love your help.

In about 6 weeks, I'll be launching an online store to sell my line of essential oils.  I began selling essential oils in 1998 as a way to provide a high quality product to my  aromatherapy students when they were difficult to obtain locally.   The objective at the time was to keep sales small and local.  I didn't give much thought to naming the line so when Liz's Garden Aromatherapy popped into my head, that was the name I gave to the small company.

Now, 12 years later, I feel blessed that my career as an Aromatherapy Educator has blossomed and as a result, essential oils sales have grown and my audience has gotten wider.  I can no longer ignore the need for an online retail store.

Here's  my self-imposed dilemma...

Do I keep the name Liz's Garden Aromatherapy or change it to The Fragrant Muse Aromatics?   This is a decision I need to make now before propelling the business further into cyberspace.  What are your thoughts, opinions or advice on names for a line of high quality organic oils?   I would also love to hear your thoughts on why you made the choice you did.  It's always interesting how a name sounds to someone else.

I have placed a poll bar on my right sidebar where you can vote until Monday, March 22.  If you have something different in mind, you can either let me know in a comment below or email me at thefragrantmuse@gmail.com.

THE GIVEAWAY
I've decided to host a giveaway.  The prize is a 15ml bottle each of our most popular therapeutic blends:  Allergy/Sinus Relief and Muscle/Joint Relief.

How can you win?    Just leave a comment here by Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. EST.  On Sunday evening the winner will be chosen using the very non-scientific method of printing out a list of folks who have left a comment, cutting out the individual names, putting them in a hat and letting my husband reach in and draw out a name.

Remember the contest will run through
Sunday, March 28, 2010 at
5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (NYC time).

The winner will be announced here on Monday, March 29th

Click here to share this post on twitter...Thank You!

I was so torn on this. I love Fragrant Muse, especially to be consistent with your blog from a marketing standpoint but in the end, chose Liz's Garden. It just has such a sweet, personal feeling to it. When I pick up my bottles, I look at them and think, "Aw, Liz. And they are like her little, personal garden that's she sharing with me." And I get all warm and fuzzy. So that's my 19 cents worth. Good luck girl! Remember, there are no wrong choices :-)

Hi Liz! Thanks for coming by Organic Orgy today; it was great to hear from you! I'm getting a divorce, after 90 days of drama and trauma, so I am lagging way behind on my blogging for sure! I have been using your aromatherapy tips to mitigate the stress and I am having good results! I will look forward to your online shop and will become a frequent shopper! Peace and Love, Kitty.

Hi Liz, I've voted too! I've voted for The Fragrant muse, but I really like both names. I think it's important though that you choose one and apply it to everything, so if you don't change the name of the line, you should change the name of the blog. Otherwise, people will get confused and think they're two different things! Hope this helps!

Liz,

I like Fragrant Muse . . . however, I do think that either one is a fabulous name. I would agree with the previous sentiment that if you choose Liz's Garden/Fragrant Muse that you should then change the name of your Blog, your web address, your lettering for your car, etc. to be consistent across dimensions to make it easy for the droves of people who will be searching out your oils once they are listed as one of Oprah's 10 favorite things!!

Hi Liz! I just voted and joined your Facebook group. Congrats on your new line. :-)

as i said on buzz (are we the only ones still using that?), i think that the liz's garden implies that you are growing and distilling the essential oils yourself, and since i don't think you are (i could be wrong), i like TFM aromatics better.

i used that muscle/joint comfort when my neck was sore, but i just generally like it, because it smells like root beer.

Liz...I chose Liz's Garden because it is the brand I have used and loved since I've known you and I would miss it! I think Fragrant Muse is great for your blog, but would sub-head it (for marketing purposes)..."Liz's Garden Aromatherapy - Home of the Fragrant Muse" As you branch out, stay connected to your roots... (Sorry!Couldn't resist that!)

Hi Liz...

I've done my duty and voted according to what I feel in my heart. I'm also leaving a note here, as I know I could sure use Muscle/Joint Relief... I have a tendancy to overdo! Truly, when I think about it.. if the allergy/Sinus Relief will help with ragweed season, I could benefit from that, as well!

How exciting this must all be for you! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you take this next step with your business! I'm thrilled for you, Liz!!!

Hi Liz! Just voted...and although I voted for The Fragrant Muse Aromatics, I prefer it without the "The". Fragrant Muse Aromatics just rolls off the tongue so nicely!! Also, it makes me think that I too can be a Fragrant Muse if I wear your oils...instead of just putting on "The" fragrant muse's oil. Did that make any sense, or did I just bungle my point?

No matter what name you choose, I love your oils and will continue to buy them....Even if you call them "Liz's poop"!

I'm a fan of yours on Facebook, and I read your blog, and I have to tell you that Liz's Garden always sticks in my mind more than The Fragrant Muse. Also, mumsyn had a great idea to subtitle your name, so that you could use both names. I think that's a winner! Good luck and congratulations! :)

I am very excited for your new line and your school! It will be cool for me to be the student instead of the teacher:) Go with the Fragrant Muse Aromatics by Liz!

The Fragant Muse (yes, I left the Aromatics out but love Jenny´s suggestion of Fragant Muse Aromatics)

My choice is influenced by being a non native English speaker. The Liz´s part poses a slight pronunciation puzzle and in googling the name not everyone will know how to spell Aromatherapy.

Congrats on your new store! How exciting! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, I appreciate that.

I voted! While I like both names, I'm loving The Fragrant Muse. It's clever and feels like the perfect fit :)

You delight me in so many ways.
My love and best wishes.

Hi Liz, I agree completely with mumsyn. Use both for marketing purposes, but keep your actual name in the title of the product and the online store. Mo

Hi Liz,

By far I think you should stick with Liz's Garden. It is incredibly fitting to who are as a person and what you developed into a flourishing business. It speaks your energy and what you stand for. So I definitely feel pretty strongly about sticking with what your gut told you years back.

Good luck!!

PS. I also agree with Mumsyn's suggestion with utilizing the fragrant muse for your blog.

hi liz, thank you for reminding me. i voted for the muse as the garden may sound too self-made for the veeeeerrrrry serious customers. cheers from cold vienna eliane (one of my students didn't pass the final exam, a nightmare not only for her but also for me)

Well since you're asking, I like...aw geez, I like both! I like that "Liz's..." because "garden" & "aromatherapy" both capture what your products offer, but I like the Frangrant Muse because it's so catchy, but don't like "aromatics" as it doesn't capture the authenticiy of the EOs of your procucts and knowledge. That's my humble opinion...really looking forward to seeing what you choose.

Peace,
WRO

I voted "other" but that's just because I am a non-conformist!!

No, seriously, I do have my reasons. It is not that I don't like either name (I love them both) but I think you need to think further ahead than this just one step. What is one outgrows the other? What if someone made an offer to buy part of your business someday? What if you wanted to franchise? These are just a few of the questions I would ask.

I think we are seriously overdue for lunch. This could be our topic (after catching up about the kids, of course!).

The Cafe here in town is open Fridays for lunch. Let me know when that works for you ~ sooner than later...

wv: pheas. At least it is not PHEAA. I see too much of that word!

Deb said...

Does another comment get me entered twice? Crossing my fingers! I think the word Muse brings up images of creative fairies or someone not to be taken seriously! The other name Liz's Garden implies that you are creating, mixing your own formulas...even if you are not growing the plants yourself, you are the creator of the product. So Liz's Garden gets my vote.

Ooooh it's SO EXCITING. I've voted, but I'm not sure if my Britishness is getting in the way - I'm assuming business will mostly be US?

Liz's Garden A is very comfortable, familiar....kind of like joining a club.

The FM ... it's quite lofty, learned, whimsical and female.

Urgh, does that help? xx

Nothing wrong with having cake and eating it too, after all, what good is a cake if you don't eat it?
Business Name:
The Fragrant Muse
Line of Essential Oils name"
Liz's Garden Aromatherapy

Should you expand your offerings some day to include river rocks, music, literature or something else - they can be given a special name, as the line of oils already have been, and then all the stuff can be happy living together under the umbrella of the The Fragrant Muse.
Just a thought.
John

I voted for Fragrant Muse. It sounds more open ended and compelling. Loving your muscle stiffness recipe. Thank you and add me into your drawing. Yay!
